       You may not know this, but Charleston continually ranks in the top 5 places to have a wedding and in the past we have heard of 300+ weddings being held there in a single weekend so that fact certainly supports this ranking.

       Being from South Carolina the southern charm and aged but meticulously maintained architectural beauty of Charleston is nothing new to me. In fact, my aunt built her home keeping many of the colors and architecture of Charleston in mind and when it was finally completed she hung pictures of Charleston all over her house. So from a very young age not only did I get to personally experience Charleston but I got maximum exposure to what was offered there even when we were not there in person.

       Despite this exposure I still am floored every time we visit the area, which is quite often. Old plantation homes, beautiful properties, luxury resorts, charming inns, beaches, yacht tours and more make Charleston an interesting and wonderful place for anyone to visit. If you are planning on having your wedding in Charleston then you are guaranteed to find a ton of wonderful and, unique options that will allow you to make your wedding the most beautiful and personalized event ever.

       So if Charleston is so great for weddings what would be the drawbacks to a Charleston, SC Wedding

       Well, to be completely honest the options that make Charleston so wonderful are the same thing that can make planning a Charleston wedding a nightmare.

       Typically the first thing that every bride looks for is a Charleston wedding venue, so we will start there too. As you look for your perfect Charleston wedding venue you will literally be overwhelmed by locations and options. You may think well this is not a bad thing as I can be sure to find my perfect place… WELL… YES… as you look for that perfect place though, you are going to find that all of the places are “Perfect”. So how do you choose a perfect place from 100’s of perfect options? It’s hard!!

       Since a multitude of options can in fact be negative, now imagine beyond the venue and also having to worry about photographers, caterers, videographers, chairs, bartenders, etc because there are also tons of options in all of those categories. Just thinking about it is enough to make your head spin so I say all of that to make this one, very simple recommendation.

GET A CHARLESTON WEDDING PLANNER!!!

       We have worked with many different planning companies in the Charleston area and in all honesty they are all great, but my purpose here is to not keep your head spinning but rather to try and focus your search on something that will actually be beneficial and for that reason I am only going to provide two company names.

Duvall Catering –
       Duvall is a full service catering and planning company and they are absolutely fantastic. The people in charge are wonderful to work with and each event that we have seen them handle no matter if it’s mild or wild has been executed with the utmost precision.

A Charleston Bride -
       We have worked with A Charleston Bride many times and they always do a fantastic job. In fact some of the most lavish Charleston weddings we have been a part of have been designed and executed by the “A Charleston Bride” team.

       Hiring a planner for your Charleston wedding will be one of the better decisions you make, we promise. If budget is an issue ask yourself is downgrading from a $X000 cake to a more subtle cupcake tree is worth you being able to enjoy your wedding day as well as the planning experience.

DON”T FORGET YOUR WEDDING VIDEO EITHER!

       Another item that you may not have thought about but is also of utmost importance is a wedding video. “Wedding video? I’ll never watch it!!” you may say and typically I would agree with you?!?!?! What??? You’re a videographer and you’re agreeing with me?? Yup!!!

       Wedding video is an extremely difficult job and filming and editing something that truly brings back the emotions of the day is something that is not easy to come by. This difficulty gives wedding video an overall bad name and in fact Marianna and I have one of these “never to be watched again” wedding videos ourselves. Our direct experience with a bad wedding video though has focused us on providing the best wedding videos to all the couples that we work with. In almost all cases we have heard from couples that their video we created for them is the most treasured take away from the wedding, even above and beyond photos.
